The Beginning

College-from a sophomore's point of view

This is the starting line, all of the runners lined up, ready to take off the second they hear a shot fire. The start is this blog and the runners are my passions and goals. For the first time since I began writing I'm getting out of my comfort zone, depriving myself of any sleep just to make a website and write a quick page all about myself. This is one out of the many turning points of my story, and you reading these words makes you a part of it.

For the past four days I have been doing non-stop research about college, because what happens after high school is determined by the goals I set now and what I do in order to achieve them. I will be a junior in the 2022-2023 school year which means that I am eligible for dual-credit college classes. By taking a dual credit college course, I get to start working on my college credits two years earlier than if I'd waited until I graduated, and I get free college. I plan to get my associates degree by the end of 2025...if possible. Now, this is where it gets complicated. If I want my bachelors degree then I have to live in Texas for an extra four years. But, my family and I had originally planned to move to Colorado by summer of 2024. This means I could stay in Texas and spend tens of thousands of dollars on college that I never planned to go to, or see what I can do with an associates degree. Although degrees do not hold nearly as much weight as they used to, a lot of journalism and editing jobs require four years of college, and I know what your thinking, "It's not about what you know, It's about who you know". This is true, networking is one of the best ways to secure good jobs. But, networking can be really difficult if you are moving to a new state full of people you have never met.

What it boils down to is, I can't make a plan for what's going to happen to me in three to four years. I'll start setting smaller goals to accomplish over weeks or months instead of years. An example being this blog, not only does this help me gain writing experience and help me build a portfolio, but it's also a safe-space I've created for myself and hopefully some others. This is something that I have been wanting to do for quite a while, and now that I'm finally doing it, I'm not nearly as scared as I dreamed I'd be. Though this piece is just what feels like an endless rambling of my problems, It's really just the first out of many articles, essays, papers, and stories I will write. This, is my beginning.
